Mac OS 9.2.2 is your FRIEND!

For the longest time I ran my 3400c on Mac OS 8.6. But finally, with no success getting FireWire to work under 8.6, I upgraded to 9.1, then to 9.2.2. I must say 9.2.2 feels a lot faster than 9.1, and is more stable too. Also, 9.2.2 allows me to use my iPod, which requires 9.2.1 minimum.

Installation Issues

Mac OS 9.2.2 will NOT INSTALL ON A PRE-G3 COMPUTER!!!

Lets read that again.

Mac OS 9.2.2 will NOT INSTALL ON A PRE-G3 COMPUTER!!!

That is, not without a helper program.

To get 9.2.2 running solidly on your 3400c, follow these steps:

Install Mac OS 9.1 on your 3400c.

Download the Mac OS 9.2.1 and Mac OS 9.2.2 updaters from Apple's website, but do not attempt to install yet.

Download OS9Helper from OS 9 Forever

Run OS9Helper, and use it to install Mac OS 9.2.1 first, then Mac OS 9.2.2.

You may notice sound does not work on your 3400c. Do not be alarmed. OS 9 Forever offers this Sound Fix for 3400c/Kanga G3

After you update everything, and install the sound fix, you'll be good to go!
